The Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ross River Dena Council for their participation in the exploration of the Manto and Shamrock deposits at the Company's Ketza River property in the Finlayson District in southeast Yukon. Ross River Dena Council signed the MOU on behalf of the Kaska Nation, whose traditional territory encompasses YNG's mineral claims within the Pelly Mountains.
The Ross River Dena Council performed a drum and singing celebration at the Company's Ketza River mine site on July 22nd of this year. The celebration occurred just after the signing ceremony of the MOU and was attended by Ross River Dena Council's elders, Chief and band members. The Hon. Archie Lang, Minister Energy, Mines & Resources, Dean Hassard, MLA Pelly-Nisutlin and a quorum of the Company's Board of Directors were also in attendance.
Signing the MOU
Graham Dickson thanked the Kaska for receiving the Company into their Traditional Territory and stated that, "Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp. appreciates and welcomes the Kaska's interest and participation in the exploration of the Ketza deposits. The Company is confident that both the Kaska Nation and the Company will benefit from the mutual respect, cooperation and support envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding." Ross River Dena Council Chief Jack Caesar said, "This is good news for our people. It shows that all parties can benefit from the development of resources in the Kaska traditional territory when we work together with mutual respect." Minister Lang stated that, "The responsible development of mining properties is key to progress in the Yukon. We encourage mining companies and First Nations peoples to work together to provide the synergy that will benefit all parties."
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) provides a basis for participation by the Kaska in project exploration activities as well as ongoing environmental monitoring and remediation. The support of the Kaska in these activities is a positive benefit for the project advancement. Opportunities to the Kaska are provided for employment, training and service contracts in regard to the activities on the Ketza property.
