Sports

The word “sport” implies an intense physical activity that involves moving a body through a specific environment. This activity may involve burning calories, sweating, or physical exhaustion. Regardless of the type of sport, it is important to understand the importance of emotions in the game and its relationship to national identity. During the 20th century, sports underwent spatial and social diffusion. As the Soviet Union collapsed, major sporting nations began creating state-sponsored programs. The late 20th century saw the marriage of mass media and elite sports. In fact, these two entities became so interdependent that professional sports are now impossible to imagine without billion-dollar broadcast rights and saturated sports pages. No other cultural form has reached the level of global audience that sports do. It is not a coincidence that millions of viewers tune in to watch sports, even if it isn’t televised. Moreover, these figures do not include the popularity of the games.
