What Are Sports?


Sports are activities which involve physical activity and skill, with two or more parties competing against each other. Sport is an important part of the lives of many people, and it has a positive effect on both the mind and the body.


– An athletic competition in which one team or player is actively engaged in stopping the other from scoring; elimination of most track and field, gymnastics, ice events, golf, archery and markmanship.

It can also refer to any competitive event in which the winner is based on a judgment of the judges and / or objective measurement of the “result”. This includes races, but does not include gymnastics, diving, skiing, karate and other non-athletic competitions.

A sport is an organized event, governed by rules and customs that allow for consistent adjudication of the winner. It is usually played for a pre-determined amount of time, with each team or individual playing to win. It may be played for fun or with a competitive purpose, but it should not involve cheating. It should be fair, and players should win and lose graciously. It should also encourage a spirit of cooperation and teamwork among the participants.
